MYTHICAL BLIND DATE- Lausks

Ah ha, another watercolor!

Well this is for @Vlei 's really fantastic contest, 'MYTHICAL BLIND DATE' [link] where he gives you a random creature out of obscure mythology and you have to go depict it.

I got Lausks:

Usually being described as an old man dressed up for winter in warm coat made of animal fur and holding small silver or crystal ax in his hand, Lausks is only mentioned in connection with winter and freezing temperatures.

People might wonder, why are the walls, corners or roofs of their houses cracking in winter, when snow covers them and icicles hang from roofs. Well, this is the job of Lausks. This old man walks around with the little ax in his hand and hits the walls, corners or roofs with it to test their strength. Lausks is also the one, who pinches in peoples cheeks, nose and ears, when they go out in winter.

Now, when i read that bit about this old man pinching ppl's cheeks, my first thought was: 'that is the CEEPIEST THING i have EVER heard! oh, i must draw it.'

and so, here you go, creepy invisable old man with a little axe pinching a *somewhat* unexpecting woman who just stepped out for a sec. CREEPY.

I kept the image kind of storybook in style, and i have to say this was a lot of fun to sit down on a day off and watercolor away- after i had almost no referances for this one and aggonised for quite a while in the planning stage to get them to look right. whew
