Those who follow my work and know me well know I’ve been writing almost since the moment I leaned to read- and that I’ve been working on the same world for the past 14 years of my life, adding and growing in the hope that someday, it will be passable. Anyways, when :iconstrictlycomedrawing: made the announcement that the next theme would be ‘mythology’, I jumped at the chance to depict one of the Iconic Aspects of my continuing world. Thusly, I chouse to depict the Aspect of Truth; i.e., the ‘embodiment of truth’ itself, who serves as one of the 12 god-like figureheads of my novel’s religion. The Symbols and iconology of this work is a mix of my own creations based upon the book, and a few additives I found in Google that I threw in for the fun of it.

THIS ALSO COPYWRITE J. LEIGH 2009 ALL CONCEPTS AND IMAGERY- YOU CAN NOT RECREATE OR USE WITHOUT MY EXPRESS WRITTEN PERMISSTION!!!

otherwise, enjoy :aww:

Symbols of color:

First and for most, Truth in my world is represented at its most basic by the color and metal, silver. This goes back to a ‘truth is in the eye of the beholder’ concept, and since silver powder pressed between panes of glass is what was originally used to make mirrors, it works on a multitude of levels. This is also why I chouse to depict this painting in a very mono-chromatic style as possible, making the majority of his trappings silver in color.

The second color I used here to accent certain things was gold, as in my pantheon, gold represents the ‘all-encompassing’, the eternal ‘everything’.

this is also why i chouse NOT to have other colors in the pic, as they would represent things i didn't want to.

Physical symbols:

The mirror: Mirrors being one of the main symbols of truth in my world- the black disk mirror he is holding represents the other side of truth, not deceit, but the ‘void’ of not-knowing, of ‘nothingness.’ It’s tasseled in the gold, because the reality is, in order to know the truth you must have ALL the knowledge needed.

The moon: again, the moon represents the two sides of truth, the full moon especially shows us only one face, while there is more behind it, the dark side of the moon, representing the void of the unknown.

The Dragon: the dragon above his head in part of my world’s pantheon, being creatures of great knowledge and ageless wisdom, as well as magic, truth is figureheaded by a silver dragon.

The scales: Law and justice also fall under this ‘god’s’ domain, and thusly I included the scales of justice behind him, again in keeping with the silver-and-gold motif. The round pyramid with the three lines in it that serves as the top of the scales is a combination of two symbols- the Christian trinity pyramid that represents, god, man and spirit, and the native American symbol for truth (the three lines) that represents heaven, truth and earth. The silver fish in the scale's arms is another truth symbol from my world. While the two symbols on the scale plates themselves are the alchemical symbols (another domain of this god) of silver (left) and purify (right).

Tattoos: the tattoos under his eyes are the Egyptian symbol for truth (right) and the same symbol reversed to represent it reflected in a mirror (left). The one on his brow is the mathematical symbol for infinity.

Necklace: the twelve pointed star here represents the 12 aspects of Spirit that make-up my pantheon.

His hands: I’ve placed them in the sacred ‘ohm’ position used by meditates across the world.

Whew.
