bottom-

my attempt (finally) to re-do my work 'Broken' the first thing i ever submitted to DA for the :iconkickyourownass: challenge [link]

I've said for years that i'd re-do this pic, but have never been happy with the prelim sketches i've done....finally i think i've got it after all these years. :o

Did you know you can quite easily put separately scanned images together? Do you have Photoshop? As long as you have the slightest amount of overlap, which you have here, they're really easy to reassemble. I do it all the time. :D

Ack, I'm sorry. Somehow, I assumed that everyone on dA must have Photoshop. ;)

I find it's pretty indispensable for postwork and such on traditional images... even if mine still is the ancient v. 6.0 XD

Magnificent. Impressive. Not only the technical quality but also the ability to demonstrate all the drama and emotion of the character. A masterpiece for sure.

Lovely bright colors, a nice contrast to the somber pose and subject matter (end of a battle right?). I would suggest adding some wear and tear in the knight's skin, armor and sword like blood stains, scratches and maybe some bruising too. You've done wear and tear to his clothing and it looks good so you could probably pull off the other stuff just as well :)

Thank you very much! I appreciate the kind and insightful words. :aww:

and actually he does have a slash on his right thigh (your left), there is a blood dribble running off of his left hand (its easer to see the difference in reds on the scanned close-ups), the chainmail legging on his right leg is detached from the belt b/c of a broken link, and the sword is, well broken. lol :)

thanks again though!

oy! :faint: lol

i in all honesty like to keep the roughness of the gore and violence down to a minimum- it's just a personal choice, but i prefer things that only HINT at violence rather than having it out in the open. :D

Oh that's fine, I don't have a problem with keeping gore and violence to a minimum. I just wanted to clarify on my earlier comment.

Nice creative way to use your artistic skills. Brought this image to life from the still. So much better than a rendering!

:aww: thank you- though what do you mean, 'from the still' and 'better than a rendering'?

What I mean by that you brought it to life from the "still life" model. What you created was a much more artistic approach than if you had "rendered" the photo by digital means. I think you did a great job in paying attention to the detail as well. Nice work!
